I am extremely happy to be able to help with the visual identity preceding the launch of Newcastle-based textile artist “Blueberry Boulevard” and very proud of Lee-Anne Flanagan (a.k.a my mum) for turning her talent and years of experience with sewing and fabrics into a business.

The logo design was inspired by a retelling of an amazing, powerful dream Lee-Anne had had a few weeks earlier. Loaded with symbolism, a higher energy (call it God, or ‘The Universe’, or ‘The Force’, or ‘The Schwartz’ for you Mel Brooks fans) has encouraged her follow her passion and introduce her creations to the world. I am excited to see where this new Boulevard will take her.

I tried out a bunch of different branch and female silhouette ideas by hand in pencil and made sure I had included all of the necessary elements and symbols for approval before finalising the logo in Illustrator to ensure we could scale the artwork to any size necessary. However, the lines were a little too crisp and “computery” for the earthy symbolism, so I painted in some wear and tear in photoshop to bring the illustration back to an organic, handmade feel that connects more with philosophy of the brand.

Website will be coming up shortly…but for now, you can take a look at Facebook timeline design I have created showcasing the snuggly sleep-suits Lee-Anne has created for my little girl…keeping her granddaughter warm through the cold winter months. Lee-Anne also designed and manufactured the plush duck featured in the photo after being inspired by the character in my book, High Up Where! My little girl loves her duck so much already, I cant wait for kids to be able to take home their very own at the book launch, coming up on the 17th June…stay tuned for your official invitation!
Aside from celebrating my daughters second birthday and developing a pen and ink illustration approach for Yang Style Tai Chi book, I have begun working up a design for a new sewing label Blueberry Boulevard. I cant release the image yet…but here is a taste of whats coming soon. We have started by designing an inspiring image (an affirmation of sorts) that really connects with the artists new path (or boulevard) in life and turning her passion for her craft into a business and sharing her creations with the world. I look forward to developing her visual identity and working with her to develop some official merchandise for High Up Where!

So there are some exciting developments just around the corner!
